Mexico

December 26

Well Joel got up at 5am to shovel 8" of snow. Here I was in bed trying to sleep and my husband keeps me awake by making strange scraping noises. The nerve of him trying to get something done on the start of our vacation ;>.

View from our hotel room
Our plane was late which shouldn't have surprised us, but it was late because the crew didn't make it in on time. Logan had been cleared of snow several hours earlier. We weren't worried about being late because we had a direct flight to Cancun. But low and behold they gave us two boarding passes each. Even though the flight number didn't change, the plane did. Go figure. I had liked this flight the best because it was a direct flight and we had no chance of missing a plane and our luggage was more likely to make it there. It turns out that they held the plane for us. There were 40 people on the flight trying to get to Cancun so they just couldn't leave us there.

Donna and Larry were on this same leg as us and had already boarded the plane. We saw them behind us and said hi.

The flight was uneventful, which is always a good thing. But when we landed, no one was at the National counter. We needed our car, so we sent part of our group over to their office to get the cars. Though I wasn't there, I was told that they had a hard time getting their cars, but finally we had them. Only our car's speedometer didn't work and the spare tire was missing. They said tomorrow they would bring a spare to us at our hotel.

Sunrise in Puerto Adventurous
We were all turned around in the car not quite knowing where to go, but the rental agent pointed the road out to us and it was well signed from there. Every turn had Zona Hotela in the appropriate spot and they had kilometer markers along the road so we knew when we were getting close.

Our hotel was the Presidente Intercontinental. The front of the hotel is very poorly laid out. Only one car at a time can pull up and no cars can get that car, so you often have to wait for the vans and taxis to leave. Other than that the hotel was lovely. We were upgraded to the Club rooms, which are supposed to be special somehow but besides the beautiful view, we couldn't figure out why. They were the exact same rooms as Donna and Larry had downstairs.

We decided to have dinner at the hotel since we were too lazy and disorganized to go somewhere else (not to mention tired from the flight). The food was excellent if a little pricey. Well for us it wasn't too pricey since the hotel had given us discount coupons. My favorite dish there was the crab cake that we got. It was one of the best I've had, with huge chunks of crab. My Cajun chicken was quite tasty and Joel's veal parmesan was good. Ben's shrimp was also wonderful. I even liked the calamari and I don't really like calamari. We had Mexican wine with dinner. I thought it was quite good but Larry thought it too raw. What can I say. I will only drink expensive scotch, but cheap wine is just fine with me.

Only the kids ordered dessert. Ben had mango ice cream. I wish I could get that at home because it was fabulous. Beth ordered vanilla but they were out so she asked for chocolate. She changed her mind then and got cheese cake. The waiter was quite nice about it all. In fact the service was excellent.

After dinner we checked out the beach and pool in the dark. Then we crashed back at the hotel. It had been a very long day.
